Sticky Gee's

For Christmas 2011 we made lots of biscuits.
I tried out a new recipe from Bakerella - basically it was this recipe before we tinkered with it.
And tinkering we did.

My dear daughter doesn't eat brown chocolate (and neither should I but she doesn't like it and I suspect it would do to her what it does to me) so we put in white chocolate and marshmallows.

The problem (as I saw it) was that we put in too many marshmallows and they came out gooey and sticky.  With the white chocolate they also came out super super sweet, but dear daughter loved them.

So in her honour they were named 'Sticky Gee's'.

We made up other jars of cookie recipe to give to friends and I even made her another jar of cookie recipe full of dried fruit and nuts which she calls 'Breakfast Bar Cookies'.

It's a very easy recipe and although I've had to add more liquid in most of the versions I've made they've all turned out pretty yummy.  We made some for the beginning of school with dried fruit (the mix that has dried mango, craisins and dried blue berries) and white chocolate.  It would be extra nice with nuts but we can't take nuts to school.  They are yummy and seem to give DD the energy hit she needs during the day.

Granma Biscuits

Granma makes biscuits. Well not as much as she used to, but my kids still race straight to the cupboard where the biscuits should be when they get to her house. They bypass the containers filled with commercial biscuits and dig around until they find Granma's secret stash (she has to hide them from Grandad).

So the other day I happened to be parked right opposite the ingredients I would need to make the '10 minute biscuits' (so named by me because they're 10 minutes to make, 10 minutes to cook and 10 minutes to finish off an entire plateful) so I grabbed them (they were on special which also helped) and tried to make them when She-who-loves-to-help wasn't watching. It didn't work and the almonds on top are expertly placed by her loving (and completely clean as I made her wash them twice, hands.)

The biscuits lasted about 3 days and now I need to make more.

I am a one woman salad production sweat shop

My daughter doesn't much like sandwiches - she'll eat them occasionally, but on the whole they get by passed.
She does, however, like salad (as does my 18 month old son, and the rest of us in the house).
So for her lunches I thought I'd just make her a little box of salad while I'm making the dinner salad. Well this has grown to
  • a salad for dinner
  • a salad for her morning tea (recess)
  • a fruit salad for lunch
  • a salad for my husband's lunch
  • and then a box for me to eat with lunch
That's a lot of salad! I'm a regular at our grocers, they also do freshly sliced turkey and yummy ham (for the man of the house only, the rest of us can't eat it)

The lunch box at the front is hubby's and it has ham wrapped and packed in the middle, it's my box behind that, then G's two boxes and the dinner bowl.
Yummmmmmmmm.....
This lunch looked so yummy he's lucky he got it.

Gluten free Pear Muffins

I bought a great new cookbook... "Ready, Steady, Lunchbox.." full of yummy lunches for kids (and Mummies!).

I made these pear muffins (actually Georgie and I made them - she's a happy little cook) almost following the recipe, but gluten free so I could eat them too.
They are quick, simple and very very yummy.
